SLASH Comments On 'Sixth Sense' Star's Addition To Horror Film
July 1, 2011Slasher Films, the horror movie production company formed by GUNS N' ROSES and VELVET REVOLVER guitarist Slash, has hired Haley Joel Osment to star in a new film called "Wake The Dead". According to Variety, the "Sixth Sense" star will play Victor Franklin, a college student experimenting with reversing death. The film is based on a graphic novel by comics writer Steve Niles, best known for 30 Days Of Night.
"My favorite type of horror movies have always been the ones with layered performances and rich characters," Slash tells Dread Central. "Haley brings a wealth of experience to a character who is already wise beyond his years. I'm really looking forward to working with him."
Niles shares Slash's enthusiasm. "I'm thrilled with the casting of Osment for Victor in 'Wake The Dead'. It's the exact kind of outside the box thinking I love."
Slash described "Wake The Dead" in a previous interview as "basically a modern, young Frankenstein story about a brilliant college student who's discovered how to animate dead tissue but he's a teenager so he goes overboard."
Slasher Films is developing three other projects, including a movie called "Nothing To Fear", about a town that sits on the gateway to hell; "Theorem", about a mathematician who figures out the equation for evil; and "The Other Kingdom", about a hospital struck by a zombie plague.
Niles told the Los Angeles Times about working with Slash, "We want to recapture the quality of horror like they made them in the '70s, horror where you care about the characters and story."
"Wake The Dead" will be jointly produced by Slash and Rob Eric of Scout Productions. Jay Russell ("Ladder 49") will direct.
